The Guardians of the Otsoa Clan

Chapter 11

Amber pulled me aside as the ‘Meet and Greet’ for the new residents finished up. ‘What was all that about ‘beginnings of time’ and ‘waiting many lives to be reunited’ and why did you call Nana ‘Rememberer’?” “This is a conversation that must wait until later this evening; right now Anwar is headed this way with the girls and Tempie; Vickie and Lovee are looking very excited about something.” “Amber, can we go to the new playground? Momma says if it’s alright with you and Anwar we can since you’re going for a walk anyway and you can keep an eye on us. Please, please, double please.” Amber looked at Anwar who nodded his head slightly “That sounds like a great idea, some little Birdie told me it’s just like the park our Moms used to play in at Grandmother Bridgett’s house when they were little – it even has its own Fairie Village – maybe if we’re lucky we’ll meet the Fairie Queen. Let’s go.” “YEA!’ the girls yelled pulling the young people away from Tempie and me. “It seems your Sister the Sea Wytche cannot keep a secret, the playground was not supposed to be unveiled until next Sunday. Oh, well there will still be plenty of surprises left for the party.” I’m supposed to remind you we are all meeting in Anju’s apartments for dinner at 8:00p.m. Andy did tell you didn’t him?” “No – I’m beginning to think there’s a lot of things I haven’t been told” “I know; there seems to be a lot of that going around lately. See you at dinner.” She said walking away. When I got back to our apartments there was a message on the machine from Andy saying we were expected at Wind Speaks for dinner and that he was sorry but he hadn’t seen me and that he would meet me there. He also said Raya would like to speak to me if I had a few moments. I started out the door then stopped and walked into my private office. I hesitated for a second then knocked on the door to the Veramos apartment. “Am I interrupting? I thought I heard you talking to someone.” “Just an old woman talking to herself, come on in. Are those for me?” she said pointing to the books I was carrying. “Actually I’m not sure, it’s like something was telling to bring them with me.” I handed them to her. “Have you completed the translations for these?” she asked after carefully turning a few pages of the larger and newest of the two. “Amber has a translated hard copy of the ‘House of Fire’ manuscript and there are also scanned copies of it and the original on USB file in the Library and Archives. These are supposed to be returned to the rare manuscripts vault but I haven’t had a chance yet.” “The older one is some kind of book of records and so far – even with our translator programs – we’ve only managed to translate bits and pieces in the second half of the book; there’s Thebian, Runes, Vedic, Sanskrit, Sumerian and more. There are also languages from some of the Out Worlds not to mention a few that are supposedly made up. It seems to be the work of numerous authors but the script is penned by only a few hands. I’m hoping Anwar’s Find will shed some light on it. This is not what you asked me down here for though is it?” “In a way yes, it is.,” she answered turning towards the front of the manuscript. “It’s been many lifetimes but I think I can help with the translation on this section. The script is ESOE, the language of the Otlindiwesoa meaning to watch. They were here before life on the third plane began and did not inhabit physical bodies or live as we understand the term, but rather existed as light and energy. They were part of The All Mother.” “When The All Mother created the worlds She sent Her Sons and Daughters, lessor Gods and Goddesses, to walk among the inhabitants. Then She went among the Otlindiwesoa and offered them a choice.” “Some became Watcher/Scribes; those who recorded everything they saw or were told by the others, never interfering or coming into direct contact with the inhabitants. Others chose to become Rememberers, scribes who were usually Seers. They kept the Old Ways alive by remembering the histories, myths, and legends as they happened; they were the teachers of the children of the worlds. They could instruct but not interfere.” “There were also The Guardians.” “These beings did just what the name implied; they guarded – often with their lives. They carried within them the inherent abilities of all the Otlindiwesoa plus the strength, endurance, and skills of a Warrior and for a time this was sufficient but...” Just at this moment the door burst open. Pookie flew in followed by the yelping wolf pup and two very excited young girls. “Nana we saw a ghost! A real true live ghost; Tawny jumped right through her.” As I looked away from Raya to say something to the girls, for just a split second I thought I saw a familiar shape float towards the older woman. “It’s possible you’ve seen one of the spirits who live here – the mansion is supposed to be haunted but we’ve left them alone since they don’t bother anyone.” I said picking up the newer of the manuscripts Raya had lain down. “There are a few things I need to do before dinner so I’ll see you all later, Raya I hope we can finish our conversation another time, in the meanwhile would you mind seeing what you can do to help with that? Amber can bring the other one down when she comes.” I said taking my leave. Upstairs I started a bath and poured myself a drink; while it was filling I dialed the Library extension and left a message. “Alyshia its Blaize Tennyson, I need everything you have on the Otsoa or Wolf Clan, check in the Archives and Rare Manuscripts section as well; I need it ASAP. Leave me a message or send it up as soon as you get anything, I don’t care what time it is. Thanks.” I helped Anju clean up after dinner while Tempie left to take Vickie and Lovee, who was spending the night with her, upstairs. The men talked over drinks in Wind Speaks’ study. When the others arrived we all gathered in Anju’s private garden. “This is the first – and right now the only - operational gateway into the Secret Places of The Guardians; the others should start becoming operational within the next few days as soon as the Guardians of Lights and Shadows check everything out and make sure it’s safe. Would you like to take a quick look around?” Andy said to everyone pointing to a large mirror standing off by itself in a corner. After our journey through the looking glass Andy and I said goodnight and went upstairs to the apartment. “Here, you might need this.” He said handing me a drink. Taking my antique silver brush out of my hand he started brushing my hair as he talked. “When we were leaving Amber and Anwar asked if the four of us could talk for a few minutes before we went to bed. I told her to come on up whenever they could get away. I don’t think either of us are planning on sleeping anytime soon anyway. At least I hope not,” he said kneeling down beside me to take me in his arms. “So what is it you two want to talk about?’ Andy asked handing Amber and Anwar a glass of wine. “Well Mr. Tennyson I realize that I’ve only known your daughter a short time but we really care for each other and we’d like your permission to get married.” “But there’s a problem,” Amber interrupted. “Gran’s letter said I was to marry a man from the House of Light, and we all know Gran was psychic and well…” At this point I started laughing. “Is that all that’s bothering you two? Darlings don’t you know? Anwar as a descendent of the Otsoa Clan you are Watcher, Scribe, and Rememberer; all leading to enlightenment, even your profession speaks enlightment. Enlightment equals Light but Gran could have just as easily named any house and you would have still been the one. You are Otsoa meaning Wolf, Guardian of the Worlds and all the Houses of Majick. Your family has been with the Goddess since before time began; you are the one who will bring down the Covenant. Yes, you have our permission and our blessings to marry.
